Balance

I returned yesterday from a long 4th of July weekend at St. Simons Island, Georgia with my loving wife. It was a much needed time of rest and relaxation on the beach for both of us and something we have come to look forward to each year. It is a wonderful place to celebrate our Nation's birthday and thank God for the freedom we currently enjoy.

Being a coastal island, St. Simons offers many opportunities to view nature. Walking the beach one can see various shells and ocean life as the Atlantic waves roll ashore with the tide's ebb and flow. Or, by taking a very short bike ride away from the beach you quickly come to beautiful marshland along the intracoastal side of the island. The marsh gives a dramatic view of the tide's effect and the balance that nature displays. As the tide rises the marsh is flooded with seawater bringing the required moisture and nutrients to sustain its life. Then as the tide retreats it is cleansed by the marsh and carries nutrients back out to the ocean to sustain sea life there and the lower water level allows the marsh to breathe and sustain its life. It is a delicate balance that keeps both the ocean and the marsh healthy.

Everywhere you look in nature, when you see health you will find balance. Health cannot occur without balance. The same holds true for our bodies. There is a delicate balance that must be maintained for optimum health. It is seen at all levels from the cellular level to the muscles and skeleton to the teeth. And when it isn't there you find disease. Our bodies are many systems working together. When these systems are in harmony with each other we can experience optimum health and feel our best. When they get out of balance and harmony we begin to experience disease. It may be subtle to start with but given enough time it can be debilitating. How do you address it? Restore nature's harmony and balance back to the system.

That is what makes Bioesthetics so wonderful! Dr. Lee gave us a model of optimum health and principles to guide us in restoring balance back into the system. Time and again when this is accomplished and balance restored, optimum health is achieved and experienced. And when optimum health is restored there is freedom. Freedom from pain, breakdown and disease! Like the 4th of July, that's something to celebrate!
